Procedure

For periods of absence from work due to illness lasting less than seven days you do not require a doctor’s certificate. You can complete a self certificate which is available free of charge from reception. If your employer insists on a doctor’s note for periods of absence of less than 7 days then you can ask for a private certificate for which there is a fee. For periods of sickness absence of 7 days or more your doctor can give you a medical certificate. This is free of charge. You will need to have consulted the doctor about the illness in order to get a sick note. We cannot give sick notes for periods of illness for which you did not consult a doctor. It is the doctor’s decision whether or not to issue a sick note.
