Following a public consultation, Lewisham CCG updated its prescribing guidance which means that medicines for acute (short-term) illnesses, minor and/or self-limiting conditions and health supplements which can be bought over the counter (OTC) from a pharmacy are no longer routinely available on prescription within Lewisham. Patients are encouraged to purchase these medicines in a pharmacy over the counter. Patients who do not normally pay for prescription charges can get many medicines free of charge through the Pharmacy First scheme.
Prescribing of malaria prevention medicines on the NHS for travel abroad is also no longer available on prescription.
