Tests and Results
If the GP or nurse ordered a test then the result is sent back to the practice. If a hospital doctor ordered a test then the practice is not usually sent this result until after you have been given the result at the next hospital out-patient clinic.
All results that come into the practice are checked by a doctor before filing in your records. Most blood and urine test results are available within 2-3 days. Unusual blood tests may take longer.
Most X-ray results are available within one week. Please phone for your results and the receptionist will pass on the comment that the doctor made on viewing the result.
If there is a need to discuss the result the receptionist will ask you to book an appointment with the doctor or nurse. In some cases the practice will write to you to inform you that your results are back and that you should book an appointment.
